What's Train the Painter?
Train the painter is the world's leading industry recognised and fully accredited Industrial Coating Applicator Training program.
The training has been developed by paint industry experts at Corrodere Academy in response to the strong demand for certification within the industrial coatings industry that now requires personnel working within the road, rail, renewables and oil and gas industries to obtain professional specified certificates.
Train the Painter has three core modules including;
- Protective Coatings Applicator (Bronze, Silver and Gold levels available)
- Abrasive Blast Cleaner
- Spray Painter
However, delegates attending the Marine Coating Applicator training course will get a deeper understanding of the offshore and marine environment, which is fundamental in understanding the specific products that relate to this sector. Students will build upon on the modules already completed in Train the Painter and experience already gained in the protective coatings industry, with a heavy focus on the marine sector only.

Course Overview

It is therefore essential that the coatings are applied correctly, and the surface preparation is in accordance with both regulations and the coating suppliers recommendations. The marine coating applicator course was developed to deliver key skills and knowledge required when working in this specialised and demanding sector.The Train the Painter - Marine & Offshore Coatings Applicator module includes;
- Understand designs and types of ships and why this matters depending on what cargo is transported
- Why ships and offshore marine assets are painted
- Have a thorough insight into methods of surface treatment and application of protective coatings in the marine environment
- Onboard and ballast tank maintenance
- Marine Coating systems and dry docking
- How to prepare and line a tank using various protection systems
- GRP - Glass reinforced plastics in the shipping industry
Prerequisites
In order to attend and complete the Train the Painter - Marine Coatings Applicator modules delegates must;
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold at least a bronze Train the Painter
Career Path
Route to Bronze card - You must complete the Protective Coatings Applicator training. You can then participate in the Marine Coating Applicator training for the offshore environment, as this provides students with the foundational knowledge for industrial painting.
